Medipex NHS Innovation Awards 2012 – entries now open

Entries for the 8th Medipex NHS Innovation Awards are now open to NHS staff and academic teams and companies working with NHS staff from Yorkshire and the Humber and the East Midlands.

With a total prize fund of £10,000, the competition identifies and rewards individuals and teams whose ideas have already led to, or have the potential to lead to, improvements in patient care which could be implemented across the NHS.

Awards organiser, Medipex Ltd, provides technology transfer and knowledge transfer expertise and services to the NHS in the Yorkshire and the Humber and East Midlands regions. By promoting innovation within the NHS, Medipex helps innovators develop their ideas by linking medical technology companies with clinical staff to facilitate product development and clinical trials.

The 2011 competition attracted over 120 entries across its five categories. Winners included: a novel blood nest for bowel cancer detection and screening; a therapeutic package for young children aimed at preventing mental health issues; and a remotely-assessed wound management service resulting in fewer hospital admissions.

The competition is sponsored by NHS Yorkshire and the Humber; MDTi; Medilink Yorkshire and the Humber; the Medical Technologies Innovation and Knowledge Centre; and intellectual property agents Urquhart Dykes and Lord LLP.

The six award categories are:

  • GP and Primary Care
  • Procurement and Secondary Care
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Medical Devices and Diagnostics
  • Software and Telehealth
  • Innovation Champion

The closing date for entries is Monday 16 July and the winners will be announced at the 2012 Innovation Awards and Showcase Dinner on Thursday 11 October in Wakefield.
