Teaching prize for Leeds lecturer

Dr David Lewis, Senior Lecturer in Neuroscience and Bioethics, has been awarded the Rang Teaching Prize by the British Pharmacological Society.

The Rang Prize is awarded in recognition of an individual's contribution to the teaching of pharmacology and to the maintenance and development of pharmacology as a discipline over the last five years.

Dr Lewis was awarded the Prize as a result of his development of specific initiatives within the Institute of Membrane and Systems Biology , Faculty of Biological Sciences:

  • introduction of a whole animal experimental techniques module
  • introduction of non-laboratory-based final year research projects, and particularly a "Science and Society" science communication project option
  • development and delivery of a a programme of ethics training for all levels
  • development of extra-curricular opportunities to enhance student employability, and particularly of educational internships
