For peat's sake, set it on fire!

Research being conducted at Leeds is contributing to the long-term, sustainable management of Britain's peat uplands.

Britain's peat uplands offer a rare and unique habitat, provide much of Britain's water and perform an important role in storing carbon.  Long term, sustainable management of our peat upland is therefore of utmost importance.

Research at Leeds is investigating the long-term effect of the use of controlled fire, a traditional ecological management tool, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.  It will gain important insights in the management of this unique and important habitat and help prevent long term damage to peatland development and biodiversity.
