Uncanny Theatre: Optimism & The Paper Birds: Thirsty

Over the next two weeks Stage@leeds brings you two shows featuring alumni of the School of Performance and Cultural Industries.

Uncanny Theatre: Optimism

Uncanny Theatre's 'Optimism' (featuring our very own Nathalie Bellingham) sees a new company already hitting their stride, with a crowd pleasing, dark, delight that wryly fillets our notions of romantic love and the body beautiful. In turns, hilarious and horrific without ever losing it's sense of 'fun', critics have called 'Optimism' an absolute joy of a first show by a new company.

Most people know when they've made a wrong decision. But what happens when someone is convinced theirs is the right one? 'Optimism' is a twisted tale of desire and self worth told through the eyes of an idiot. Uncanny Theatre is a new company co-founded by Total Theatre Award winner Matt Rogers (Chotto Ookii Theatre Company) to create bizarre yet touchingly human stories with a darkly comic edge.

The Paper Birds: Thirsty

Following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, Leeds based company The Paper Birds return with 'Thirsty.' Based on our love affair with alcohol, The Paper Birds explore the stories and social repercussions of lost memories and gained traumas, bruised knees, uncontrollable laughter, urine stained beds and sore heads. 'Thirsty' looks to the faces and the voices of everyone who likes a drink and asks why, as a nation, are we so thirsty?
