Ambassador of Mongolia visits Leeds

The Ambassador of Mongolia visited the University on last week. His Excellency, Mr Bulgaa Altangerel, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University on behalf of the Mongolian government.

The Memorandum detailed potential areas for future collaboration between the University of Leeds and Mongolia, where Leeds has enjoyed positive long-standing relations.  A former President of Mongolia, Mr Enkhbayar, studied at Leeds in 1986 and our University is highly valued as an institution where Mongolia and its culture is known and understood and where, year after year, students have the opportunities to learn Mongol language, Mongolian history and traditions and contemporary studies.

During the visit, the Ambassador also met with some current Mongolian students at the University and spoke to other students studying Mongolian-related subjects in the department of East Asian Studies. Later, he enjoyed a unique tour of the artefacts in Special Collections.

The Ambassador kindly donated some books to the University Library, which were gratefully received by Brian Clifford, Deputy University Librarian, and Dr Judith Nordby, Head of Mongolian Studies.
