How do you know?

The Wellcome Trust is looking to fund exciting and innovative projects in public engagement that show how science works and answer the question “How do you know?”

Funded projects need to demonstrate how scientists:

  • question accepted knowledge
  • examine evidence
  • carry out experiments
  • pose and test hypotheses
  • peer review reports

They should come from the fields covered by the Trust's biomedical remit, including medicine, physiology, psychology, nutrition, genetics, evolution, culture, sociology, economics, history, ethics and public health.

The aim is to encourage people from all walks of life to learn about scientific developments and give them an opportunity to consider and debate the implications and issues arising from research work.

The Trust will fund projects through its Society Awards 2011: part of its Engaging Science grants programme. The deadline for preliminary applications is 30 September 2011.

For more information about the 2011 Awards, including eligibility criteria and details of the application process, see the Wellcome Trust Society Awards website.
