Leeds maths support tutor wins national award

Leeds tutor Liz Meenan has been awarded a 2011 Sigma Prize for her outstanding contribution to maths support.

Liz has been the driving force behind the setting up and expansion of the University's maths support service since 2005.  She has:

  • secured funding for the service, enabling it to take on extra maths tutors and PhD student advisers
  • got student ambassadors involved to help promote the service
  • introduced daily drop-in sessions for students
  • developed award-winning online help, including Maths Solutions and Maths Quizzes

Beyond the University, Liz has championed the importance of maths support at national and international conferences and was one of the co-founders of the Maths Support Hub for the North East and Yorkshire.
