Colours! Karen Babayan's gouache workshop

Artist Karen Babyan will lead a hands-on workshop experimenting with gouache painting and colour at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery on Saturday 16 July.

Inspired by the work of Carlos Nadal, Karen will discuss the 'Fauvist' approach to colour and its use in artistic and cultural expression.  Workshop participants will experiment with painting with gouache and learn about quantities of colour, and the role of contrast and harmonies within colour compositions.

Karen Babayan uses paint, print, photography and video as the means to explore her cultural history. Taking hand-me-down stories and family photographs as starting points, she attempts to create a sense of place and belonging. Colour is an important element of the communication of this work.

The workshop is free, but places are limited so please book your place in advance by e-mailing Zsuzsa, phone (0113) 34 32777, or online.
