Love and death in opera

Dr Anastasia Belina is leading an open one-day workshop on Love and Death in Opera on 29 June as part of the Lifelong Learning Centre's summer workshop series.

The one-day workshop will focus on four operas which will feature in Opera North's next season:

Norma - Bellini
Madama Butterfly - Puccini
The Queen of Spades - Tchaikovsky
Das Rheingold - Wagner

You will learn about the composers, their inspirations, intentions and creative processes and will explore the musical and dramatic worlds of the four operas.

Dr Belina is a music historian and writer, presenter, translator and director with a specialism in 19th-century opera and Russian music.  She talks on opera throughout Europe.  She is a member of the Leeds University Centre for Opera Studies and is associated with Leeds Youth Opera.

Cost: £10 (concessions £5)

Opera North is offering workshop participants 25% off a pair of stalls tickets for one performance in the 2011/12 season at Leeds Grand Theatre. Further information on how to take advantage of this offer will be provided at the workshop on 29 June.
