VLE downtime - 18-30 June

The University will upgrade the VLE this summer. As part of this work, the VLE will be unavailable from the 18 to 30 June.

This is a significant piece of work for the VLE Service and ISS: the first major upgrade since the original implementation. Feedback indicates that the new version does bring benefits both in "look and feel" and functionality for students and staff.

Read more about the upgrade.

The VLE downtime occurs outside standard teaching and assessment periods and the impact on the majority of students is likely to be minimal. If you wish to access particular VLE materials during the downtime period you should prepare ahead, downloading or copying resources where possible.

Staff should look to their school or faculty contacts for advice on how to manage the downtime period.  Schools that have made provision for maintaining access to VLE stored resources will have contacted you already about specific arrangements, particularly where teaching hours extend over the upgrade period.  No assignments should be scheduled for submission via the VLE during the downtime period.

See Questionmark and Turnitin Assessment for information outside the VLE.

There is also general advice for students on how to prepare for the downtime.

ISS will be extending ISS helpdesk hours: from Saturday 18 June for two weeks there will be 8am to 8pm support Mon-Fri (plus afternoons at weekends).

The ISS helpdesk will continue to keep you updated and provide relevant information via e-mail, the Portal, and on a holding web page.
