Brownlee brothers win gold and silver in Madrid

Alistair and Jonny Brownlee sit on top of the triathlon world after finishing first & second at the ITU Dextro World Series race in Madrid.

Alistair (University of Leeds - Sport & Exercise Science 2008) has won two recent races in the French Grand Prix Series and this was his third consecutive victory on a Madrid course that he clearly loves. In 2008, a third-place finish in Madrid secured his place at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Jonny (3rd-year History) is the current University of Leeds athlete of the year, following victories at the 2010 ITU World Under-23 Championships and 2010 ITU World Sprint Triathlon Championships. He is currently second in the series rankings.

The next major race for the Brownlee brothers is the ITU Dextro World Series - London, which will be run on the same course being used for the London 2012 Games. This race acts as a qualifier for the 2012 GB triathlon team, with Alistair and Jonny both keen to secure selection at the earliest opportunity.
