Ratna Lachman of JUST to speak at Leeds

Ratna Lachman is to speak at the next Building Sustainable Societies Master Class, arranged in conjunction with Leeds Metropolitan University, at Leeds on Monday 20 June.

Ratna is the Director of JUST West Yorkshire - a racial justice, civil liberties and human rights organisation that has been setting a radical agenda on racial justice in the region. JUST has been at the forefront of interrogating the community cohesion, Prevent, and War on Terror policies from a Northern perspective. She has given evidence to the Select Committee on Prevent and has been interviewed in the national press and media on the government's anti-extremism agenda.

More recently JUST has been examining the Coalition government's approach to public sector cuts and is currently researching its impact on vulnerable communities in Bradford.

Ratna is also editing a publication on the Big Society that seeks to assess the relevance of the Coalition for multi-cultural Britain.

She will speak on "The impact of the coalition government's policy on the third sector: a progressive or regressive agenda?"

The talk will take place:

On: Monday 20 June

At: 6.30-7.30pm

In: the Moot Court lecture theatre, School of Law, Liberty Building

More details and a registration form can be found on the Leeds Social Services Institute website.
