Honour for Dr Stella Cottrell

Dr Stella Cottrell, Director for Lifelong Learning/Head of Centre, will receive an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Bedfordshire.

She will receive the award later this year, in recognition of her 'outstanding contribution to lifelong learning and widening participation'.

Dr Cottrell, who worked at the institution when it was the University of Luton, said: "It was a lovely surprise - it isn't something you expect or think about. I was especially delighted that it will be awarded for widening participation and lifelong learning.

"I have always worked to create good educational opportunities for those who, for whatever reason, either under-achieved in the past or didn't get a chance to study in higher education. That, in essence, is also what the Lifelong Learning Centre stands for here at the University."
