Gabriel (Gaby) Vanhegan

Members will be very sorry to learn of the death, on 14 May 2011, of Gabriel (Gaby) Vanhegan, Systems Administrator in the Subject Centre for PRS (School of Humanities).

Gaby was a graduate of the University (BSc,2001), and had worked for the Subject Centre for PRS for the past 7 years as systems administrator, as well as a number of other jobs for colleagues around the School.  During this time he developed a very user-friendly new website and content management system, which was delivered, very unusually for an IT project, on time and budget - a testament to his talent and professionalism.  He brought amazing warmth and good humour to the PRS team, instituting such traditions as 'fudge Wednesday', and would often provide his friends and colleagues with excellent home-cooked food.  He described himself as a pure geek at heart, and outside of work was an independent games developer who created a number of successful Flash games, winning several awards for his work.

He is survived by his wife, Anna.

The funeral service will be held in Nottingham on Monday 23 May 2011, at which time the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast.

Gaby's family have set up a donations web page for Cancer Research UK

An obituary is being prepared.
