Trek to Peru for Macmillan Cancer Support

Dr Odette Dewhurst of the Staff and Departmental Development Unit is taking part in a charity trek with the aim of reaching the ancient Peruvian city of Machu Picchu.

The trek will involve walking at altitude for four days for up to 12 hours a day, camping only in basic sites with no access to facilities such as showers.

"I need to raise a minimum of £3,700 in order take part," says Dr Dewhurst. "Of that £3,700, I'll be paying approximately £1,700 myself for flights, accommodation, food and administration. The rest of the money, and anything above that will go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support to help pay for things like their helpline, nursing staff, and providing information and guidance.

"Although I'm covering for the cost of the trip, I really need the support of my colleagues, family and friends to help me raise the rest of the money and I'm hoping that people can help me by sponsoring me through my secure, online Just Giving page."
