Statement on UCU's withdrawal from talks

The Vice-Chancellor issued the following statement on 24 March about UCU’s withdrawal from talks scheduled for next Monday.

"I am deeply disappointed that the UCU has pulled out of talks with the University scheduled to occur in London next Monday, which involved national UCU officials and which were to review the organisational change procedure and other protocols agreed last March.  Despite the fact that UCU offered the original date some three weeks ago, it now says that it 'cannot field its full negotiating team'.  The workings of the 2010 agreement lie at the heart of the current dispute, and I am astonished therefore that the UCU rejected the opportunity to resolve differences.  I simply don't understand why the President of Leeds UCU and other members of the local UCU executive could not continue to take part in these important talks.  We remain open to the meeting being rescheduled."
