UCU industrial action

All members of the academic and academic-related (professional and managerial) staff have been sent a letter regarding the planned industrial action by UCU by Human Resources Director Matthew Knight.

Dear Colleague

I am writing to confirm the arrangements by which you should notify the University if you are taking part in the industrial action being taken by the UCU in pursuance of national and local disputes. We have been notified that strike action is to take place on Tuesday 22 March 2011 and Thursday 24 March 2011.

I should make it clear, for the avoidance of doubt, that the industrial action has been called by the UCU. The other recognised trade unions are not taking industrial action.

If you do decide to take industrial action, please complete the attached form and return it to Lisa Courtney, Level 13, Ziff Building as soon as possible after Thursday 24 March 2011, and in any case by Monday 4 April 2011. The data thus collected may be shared with Faculty, School and Service management teams.

In addition, if you take strike action, would you please ensure students are informed of any consequential cancellation of lectures or classes (and advise your Head of School/Service accordingly).

The University will deduct from the salary of members who take strike action 1/365 of a year's pay for each day that you strike. Deductions will be effected in April.

Regular updates and information about the industrial dispute will continue to appear on the University's intranet 'ForStaff'; please check it regularly.
