Research Councils UK publishes Concordat on public engagement

Research Councils UK (RCUK) has published a Concordat for Engaging the Public with Research outlining the expectations of research funders with regard to public engagement.

The document sets out the expectations for research organisations, managers, and individual researchers. It identifies the key principles supporting public engagement and explains how the principles can be reflected in practice.

To coincide with publication of the Concordat, RCUK has also produced:

  • a short film featuring interviews with leading researchers, exploring the benefits of public engagement
  • briefing notes for all involved in research on how to implement the Concordat

A copy of the Concordat and briefing notes, and a link to the RCUK film can be downloaded from the RCUK website.

More information and advice on supporting public engagement can be found on the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement website.
