Open to students from all the UK's 16 Dental Institutes, the competition remit was to produce a poster on the theme of "the art and science of dentistry".  Deema, a 4th year BChD student who recently intercalated in Biomedical Ethics with the Inter-Disciplinary Ethics Applied Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, submitted her winning entry on Why ethics in dentistry: ethical issues with the use of animal-derived products in periodontics.

Her prize is a trip to Las Vegas for an international presentation, and the Dental Institute was awarded £10,000 to support undergraduate research.

The winner was announced at a gala dinner at Enniskerry in Ireland, following a day of adjudication.  Deema will be presented with her prize in Leeds by Simon Abbey of Dentsply, a company with a long history of supporting dental education.
