Student Services Review - Consultation on emerging themes
Professor Vivien Jones, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Student Education, invites all staff to attend consultation meetings to discuss proposals put forward by the Student Services Review Group:
As you will be aware, the first part of the Student Services Review has focussed on the analysis of some of the key student processes, to identify opportunities to improve the consistency, quality and equity of experience for all our students. Please see the Review's website. A series of consultation events was held at the end of last year and the feedback from this exercise was extensive and very positive. All of the feedback received, together with responses from the four Process Analysis Teams and a statement about next steps arising on this consultation will be posted on the project's website.
As a separate work-stream, the Student Services Review Group has drawn together themes emerging from the process analysis with the findings from previous projects (including the Learning & Teaching Support review and the first phase of the Admissions Review) to begin to develop a model for professional student support structures which will remain fit for purpose and flexible as the University moves forward. The current thinking of the Review Group is set out in a paper which has now been posted on the Employment Security Review Group (ESRG) website.
As you will see, the paper provides more information about these emerging themes and makes some proposals as to how the University might facilitate better team working across different functions. It is hoped that the proposed way forward will allow structures to be developed to different timescales depending on local circumstances and as proposals for process and systems developments become clearer.
The direction of travel described in the paper was endorsed by the Faculty Management Group at its meeting of 16 December and went to ESRG on 19 January. The next step is to consult widely on the proposals, including another round of open meetings for all staff.
I would therefore like to encourage any member of staff (support staff or academic colleagues) who would like to attend, to come to one of the consultation meetings being held on the following dates:
- Thursday 3 February, 9.00 - 10.00am in Civil Engineering, LT A (1.10)
- Wednesday 9 February, 12.00 noon - 1.00 pm in Civil Engineering, LT A (1.10)
- Thursday 10 February, 2.00 - 3.00 pm in Chemistry LT D (G.35)
These sessions will provide an introduction to the emerging themes and will invite feedback on the proposed model and direction of travel.
