Cheers to writer's national award

Raise a glass to the University's Simon Jenkins who has been named Beer Writer of the Year by the British Guild of Beer Writers.

Development Communications Officer in the Alumni & Development office, Simon writes the well-respected Taverner column which appears every Saturday in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

As well as picking up the overall title, he also won the prize for the Best Writing in the UK Regional Press. Chairman of judges Pete Brown said: "Simon is an exceptionally talented writer. He communicates his knowledge of and passion for great beer and pubs that serve it, in such an engaging way that anyone reading his column cannot fail to be enthused by it. He is an outstanding ambassador for beer and pubs."
