Shared areas and student home directories unavailable (24 Nov)

Access to student home directories (M Drive) and most staff shared areas (N Drive) will be unavailable between 6pm and 9pm on Wednesday 24 November.

This is because the file servers FP2File, FP3file, FP5file and FP6file will be renamed during this time. It will affect access to all student home drives and staff shared areas except those on FP4.

For most users, access will return after the server is renamed with no further action required.

More details relating to the server renaming and how this will impact you are available online

Windows users who use direct paths to these servers (ie mapped paths which start with \fp2file, \fp3file, \fp5file or \fp6file) will need to reboot their system to regain access once the server have been renamed.  No other changes are required.

Macintosh and Unix users (who access storage via direct paths) will need to:

  • Unmount existing paths to \fp2file and remount paths as \fp2fileold
  • Unmount existing paths to \fp3file and remount paths as \fp3fileold
  • Unmount existing paths to \fp5file and remount paths as \fp5fileold
  • Unmount existing paths to \fp6file and remount paths as \fp6fileold
