Head of Equality Service to take up secondment

Levi Pay, Head of the Equality Service, will be undertaking a period of secondment for 6 months as Director of Policy at the Equality Challenge Unit.

Commenting on Levi's secondment, Professor Stephen Scott, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Students & Staff said:'This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the sector-leading position that Levi has attained during his period leading the University Equality Service, and also reflects the high regard that the University of Leeds has gained in the E&D field during that period.'

In a recent Equality Challenge Unit news release, Levi Pay said:'I am very much looking forward to joining the team at ECU. Given that new anti-discrimination legislation is on the horizon and funding pressures are starting to emerge within higher education, it has never been more important to ensure that issues of fairness and equality are firmly on the agenda of institutions. This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation renowned for issuing clear, practical advice to the sector.'

Nicola Dandridge, Chief Executive of Equality Challenge Unit, said:
'We are delighted that Levi is joining ECU. His wide experience in the equalities field, having previously held policy and public affairs roles with the Scottish Parliament, the Commission for Racial Equality and Stonewall, will contribute considerably to the work being undertaken by our policy team. Levi's knowledge of the equality and diversity issues facing the higher education sector as a whole, alongside first-hand experience of implementing equality measures within a university, makes him a perfect candidate for this position and strengthens our ability to provide targeted services to the sector.'

Details of cover arrangements during Levi's secondment will be circulated shortly.
