Enter stage left: a major new talent

Ashley Scott-Layton's [Level 3 BA(Hons) Theatre and Performance] student production of Sarah Kane's "Phaedra's Love" has been officially selected for this year's National Student Theatre Festival.

The show performed at sold-out houses from 25th -27th February 2010 in stage@leeds. Ashley, who directed the play, writes that "Sarah Kane, frustrated with the overly naturalistic approach to her plays directed the premiere at Gate theatre herself in 1996 embracing theatrical techniques to present her image of depression and love.

Our production stays true to Kane's sense of theatricality as well as her writing, presenting every image she describes from torn out bowels and ravaging vultures with the use of puppetry, a live band and stage craft."

"Phaedra's Love" features more than 22 performers and a live band. It will now be performed as part of the NSDF festival on 29th and 30th March 2010 in Scarborough.
