The first 'Shivali Davé' prize awarded

The first ‘The Shivali Davé prize for excellence in a joint honours programme combining a language and a political subject’ has been awarded to Ulrike Hoole.

The £100 award was established in 2010 by the Centre for Joint Honours through the generosity of Mr and Mrs Nawal Davé, in memory of their daughter Shivali. Shivali, a finalist in French-International Relations, was killed in a road traffic accident in February 2009. The prize will be awarded annually by the Committee on Scholarships, Studentships and Prizes on the recommendation of the Director of Joint Honours Modern Languages in consultation with the examiners.

A memorial service for Shivali was held last year in the Emmanuel Centre and a tree planted in her memory in St George's Field.
