University league tables
Three league tables in the last week have seen universities across the UK rise and fall internationally and nationally. We have risen 14 places to number 85 in the QS World University Rankings, and have been placed at 168= in a new THE (Times Higher Education) table. The Sunday Times placed Leeds 26th, down two places, in its UK University guide.

Edward Boyle Library improvements
The Library has been working hard over the summer to try to respond to some of the most urgent needs of students and staff, after the suspension of the Edward Boyle Library Redevelopment Project earlier this year. Leeds success in SET Awards
Two of our students picked up three awards in the national Science, Engineering, and Technology Awards (SET) ceremony and another received a nomination. Rowan Leary, from the Faculty of Engineering, won the Morgan Crucible Award for the Best Materials Student; Rebecca Barlow, from the Faculty of Biological Sciences (FBS), won the AstraZeneca Award for the Best Pharmacology Student and the BP Award for the Science, Engineering & Technology Student of the Year; and Mona Saad, also from FBS, was nominated for the Leadership Forum Award for the Best Biology or Biotechnology Student.
In addition to the students' success, Dr Alan Bateson from the Faculty of Biological Sciences won the Lecturer of the Year Award.

Light Night Leeds 2010
Back for the sixth year running, Light Night Leeds takes place on Friday, 8 October. Across campus there will be a host of events and performances open to the public including ghost stories, a lute workshop, colour breathing and 'Personal Trainers - the Musical'.
