National pay negotiations

As part of ongoing negotiations, the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) on behalf of employers, is offering a 0.4% consolidated pay increase in light of the current economic climate.

USS pensions update

The Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) has asked the University to make staff aware of proposals regarding potential changes to USS pensions. VLS update

Figures from the beginning of June indicate that 467 members of staff have accepted VLS (Voluntary Leavers' Scheme), 90 of whom are academic.

Bafta Academy fellowship for Melvyn Bragg Lord Bragg has been awarded an Academy Fellowship by Bafta for his "outstanding and exceptional" contribution to television.

Public event on privacy and public policy On 18 June from 5pm to 6.50pm there will be a panel event in the Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre with high-profile guests debating how much importance should be given to privacy considerations when making public policy. A drinks reception will follow.

Edward Boyle Library refurbishment

This summer, the Edward Boyle Library is being partly refurbished, to provide new enquiry and book return facilities. The Library will remain open throughout the project, except for the following Saturdays: 31 July, 7, 14 and 21 August.

Essentials in the Students' Union closing for works On Friday 18 June Essentials in LUU will close for two weeks as replacement work begins of the existing refrigeration system and new shelving is installed.
