Preparing for 2012: Open meetings

The future of the University and how we maintain academic excellence to 2012 and beyond, will be the focus of three meetings held by the Vice-Chancellor Michael Arthur and members of the senior team. The meetings will give you the chance to ask about the University's preparations for 2012 and to share your ideas and suggestions about what else might be done. All welcome.

UCU disputes update

The University has issued the following statement: 'The University notes the results of the UCU local and national ballots for industrial action, and believes they reflect the overwhelming desire for a negotiated settlement.

We have maintained our willingness to hold constructive discussions with the UCU, have already proposed some possible dates, and look forward to the UCU's response. We are determined that any industrial action should not affect our students' education.'

Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation Professor Andrew Thompson is on sick leave, so Professor Edward Spiers (Pro-Dean for Research in the Faculty of Arts) has been appointed Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation with immediate effect.

Online travel survey

The university will be conducting its online travel survey between Monday 14 March and Friday 18 March. By completing the survey, which takes less than 15 minutes, you will help us to shape the future priorities and projects in our transport plan. Further details will be emailed out at the beginning of next week.

University encryption standard

The University now has a supported suite of products for encrypting confidential and personal data. The Sophos SafeGuard Enterprise Suite will allow you to encrypt all the data on a hard disk, data on a removable device such as USB stick or data stored on the University network. International Women's Day

A series of events are taking place around the University in early March to mark the centenary of International Women's Day. Heather Jackson, founder of the high level women's network 'The Two Percent Club' and the Women's Business Forum, will be speaking at the Leeds University Business School on 7 March.

University walking and cycling map

The Sustainability Team has produced a walking and cycling map for the University. The map, which could help Green Impact teams fulfil the Travel Criteria B.011, gives the location of showers, bike storage, secure storage, and the bike hub and also includes a useful map of the wider Leeds area.
