Chancellorship of the University

Lord (Melvyn) Bragg will complete his third term of office as Chancellor of the University in 2012, when he will have served for twelve years. The Committee is now seeking nominations from staff and students.

Blog launch

The Vice-Chancellor's views on how the government is approaching the issue of fair access, and Professor Viv Jones's reflections on the recent learning and teaching conference feature in a new blog available from today.

Over the coming weeks a number of the University's senior team will give their thoughts on a range of issues through the blog at https://blog.leeds.ac.uk/ Its purpose is to help to provide a flexible and responsive channel of communication through which information can be shared, and discussions initiated. The blog is open for all staff to view and if you wish to comment on any posts you can log in using your usual ISS user name and password.

Mediation Service: Mediators wanted and road shows The Mediation Service aims to support staff who are experiencing difficult working relationships with colleagues. If you'd like to find out about how the service works, or are interested in becoming a mediator, come to one of the road shows on campus from next week.

Risk management of events

Any staff who organise events should be aware of the new 'risk management of events' protocol. The protocol focuses on the health and safety aspect of event management and should complement existing decision-making processes in the University.

2011 Year Planner

The planner gives details of dates for terms and teaching starting and stopping, exams and degree ceremonies, plus when the University will be closed. The portrait version also indicates when the Reporter is published and gives dates for submitting story ideas and small ads.

New high-volume colour printer

An extended range of colour printed booklets can now be printed in-house thanks to new printing technology in the Print & Copy Bureau. This reduces production costs and these benefits are being passed onto customers within the University. For further details please contact p.g.rous@leeds.ac.uk

Sustainable transport event

The Sustainable Transport Day on 31 January will help you find out more about the different, greener ways in which you travel to work. The event takes place in front of the students' union on 31 January from 10am to 4pm and will feature information stands from City Car Club (formerly WhizzGo), Metro, Car Share Leeds and Sustrans, as well as stalls from the Leeds Tourist Information Office, the University Bicycle Users Group (BUG), UTravelActive Leeds and Velocampus.
