University response: BIS letter to HEFCE The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has written to the HEFCE setting out funding for 2011/12 and indicating funding levels to 2014/15.

Fees and bursaries
The principles underpinning undergraduate tuition fees from 2012 onwards were discussed by Senate on Wednesday 12 January following an update from the pricing and bursaries review group.

Refresh of the Resource Allocation Model (RAM) On Wednesday 12 January the Senate discussed plans to update and refresh the formula used to distribute government funding and fee income to schools and services - RAM - ahead of next year's changes in fees and funding.

Pensions scheme consultation - next steps The consultation regarding changes to the USS pension scheme finished on 22 December 2010. The next stage in the process will be a meeting of the USS Trustees on 20 January, when they will consider responses to the consultation. Confirmation of changes to the scheme is expected to be communicated to members in February or March, and the changes will be implemented from 1 April 2011.

Interruption to staff email
On Wednesday 19 January between 5pm and 6pm, email will be delayed for some users.
This will mainly affect Exchange users in the following faculties and services:
ESSL, Estate Services, LUBS, MAPS, Environment, Engineering.
Mail will continue to be delivered and queued until the service has been brought back online. This work is due to essential maintenance on the Exchange server (Hermes 8).
