Access agreement submitted

The University's access agreement has been submitted to the Office for Fair Access (OFFA) for approval. The access agreement includes the University's proposal for tuition fees and its financial support package detailing scholarships and bursaries available. Appointment of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellors

Following interviews earlier in the week, Professor Dawn Freshwater, Head of the School of Healthcare, has been appointed to the post of Pro-Vice-Chancellor with a portfolio covering staff and organisational effectiveness. Professor Freshwater will take up her post on 1st August 2011.

Professors John Fisher and Vivien Jones have been reappointed to their respective roles of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Student Education. All the appointments are for a period of five years.

Vice-Chancellor appears on Channel 4 news.

Appearing alongside David Willetts, Minister of State for Universities and Science, Professor Michael Arthur gave extensive coverage to the University's bursaries, scholarships and fees for undergraduates starting in 2012 fees and urged the Government to highlight the affordability of a university education to all. Professor Arthur was involved in a live studio debate with David Willetts, Professor Malcolm Gillies (VC of London Met) and two prospective students, discussing access and low income students.

University closing dates over Easter

The University closes for Easter at 12.30 pm (except the Brotherton, the Edward Boyle and the Health Sciences Libraries which close at 5 pm) on Thursday 21st April 2011 and reopens on Wednesday 27th April 2011. The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday 29 April 2011 will be marked by a public holiday. The University will therefore be closed on that day and on Monday 2 May for the May Day bank holiday.
