We are recruiting participants to take part in a new study investigating the neural correlates of decision making while crossing streets. The ultimate aim of this study is to improve traffic safety.
We will be adhering to the University approved COVID safety measures to ensure safety of all people taking part in the study.
In the case that if you are able to access COVID test kit, we recommend you taking tests in the morning before you come to the session of EEG laboratory visit. We request all members to wear face covering upon arrival of the laboratory.
Before you come to the session of the laboratory visit, if you start to show signs, such a high temperature, a new continuous cough, a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste, please inform us and cancel the experimental session. We will also cancel the experiment if we notice that you may carry these signs.
To ensure you are also protected from such risk, our members will always wear NHS PPE when conducting the experiment.
The experimenters who get in contact with you in the laboratory visit will take a COVID test twice per week during the period of data collection as part of the University’s lateral flow testing scheme All equipment that may be in contact with you will be thoroughly cleaned both before and after the experiment.

The criteria listed below outline essential prerequisites of the study:
- At least 18 years of age
- Being right handed
- No previous history of mental health conditions
- No previous history of cardiovascular related (heart) problems
- Must not be taking any medication for psychiatric/neurological illness
- Must not be prone to adverse reactions to minor skin irritations or suffering from a skin condition
- Must not have any history of visual disorder (partial or complete blindness, visual disturbances, etc.) or motor disorder (tremors, spasms, etc.)
- Must not have dreadlocks, cornrows, or thick curly or wavy hair. EEG electrodes must make good contact with the scalp and it is difficult to gain full access to the scalp of individuals with these hairstyles
- Please not to come to the study if you have had known contact with someone with COVID or showing symptoms related to upper respiratory tract Infection.

After signing up to a time slot, you will receive an email with details of how to get the school of psychology experimental labs- where the experiment will take place.
The study has been approved by the School of Psychology Research Ethics Committee (ref PSYC-266, date of approval 26/05/2021). Should you decide to take part you will be free to withdraw at any stage during the experiment and will be paid according to the time you have spent performing the study. You will be able to withdraw from the study at any point during their testing session without giving a reason. You will not be able to remove data after you have taken part in the experiment, since at this point the data will be anonymised and it will not be possible to identify and remove your data.
