People with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are required to take part in a new study.
We think gut bacteria are important for health and may be a factor in IBS.
Understanding this may lead to more appropriate treatments or management strategies to relieve symptoms in the future.
The study involves:
- completing some health questionnaires; and
- attending the hospital on one occasion to meet with the study nurse and provide stool, urine and blood samples.
You will be sent the questionnaires and stool collection kit in advance of your appointment. This sample will then be sent to the laboratory for processing.
You will not need to undergo any other tests or take any treatments. There is no follow-up. Once you have provided the above, then your involvement in the study is complete.
At the end of the study, you will receive some information about your own microbiome from the study team, as well as a £15 Love2shop voucher.
The study is open to adults between the ages of 18 and 69 inclusive. Anyone with other digestive diseases – e.g. inflammatory bowel disease or coeliac disease – is excluded from participation.
