School of Languages, Cultures and Societies

This research investigates effective ways of teaching Russian to foreign learners. For this purpose, participants who would like to learn Russian free of charge (weekly, 20 hours) are being recruited.

This invitation is open to speakers of Chinese, English and Arabic (who were born and educated in the country of their mother tongue), and who never have done Russian before but would like to learn some.

Participants will be offered up to 20 hours of free tuition by the experienced teacher, who is also a native speaker of Russian. The sessions will be held weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays on the University campus. Each session will last about 1.5 hours. No homework will be given but suggestions will be made to help your learning.

We are hoping to complete all sessions by the end of Semester 2. You will be doing some tests, mainly at the end of your learning, with some very short ones in the middle. As you will be learning to speak, some of the tests will involve short audio recording of your speech (about 10-15 minutes). The tests will be anonymous and their results will not be disclosed to your course tutors. They will not be awarded credits or contribute to your grades.

As this is a research project, participation is absolutely voluntary, i.e. it is up to you to decide whether to take part or not. You can withdraw at any time.
