This study investigates how listeners judge the speed of speech. 45mins, £5 paid.

Participants are wanted for a simple listening experiment, which aims to investigate how speech tempo is perceived.

This research is led by Dr Leendert Plug (Linguistics and Phonetics). This will involve a one-time, individual computer task, where you will judge the speed of recorded speech, heard over headphones. It will take around 45 minutes.

In order to participate, you must:

  • be a native UK English speaker
  • have grown up in a monolingual household
  • have (had) no known speaking or hearing impairment
  • be between 18 and 35 years old

The sessions will be held in the Phonetics Lab, Michael Sadler Building (Basement Level). I will be organising testing sessions throughout the coming weeks to suit your availability, so please contact me as soon as possible to express your interest: r.w.lennon@leeds.ac.uk Thank you!
