This study is comparing 2 treatments for severe chronic hand eczema called alitretinoin and PUVA therapy and is looking for volunteers to take part.

Participants may be suitable to take part if they are over 18, currently suffer from eczema (also called dermatitis) on their hands and their hand eczema makes performing everyday tasks such as cooking, dressing, working etc. difficult.

Participants would need to undergo a screening assessment to check this study is suitable for them.

If randomised to alitretinoin, participants will need to takes tablets once a day for 12 weeks.

If randomised to receive PUVA, participants will attend twice weekly for 12 weeks for PUVA treatment.

Study follow up visits will take place every 4 weeks for 36 weeks then every 8 weeks from week 36 to 52 where the hands are assessed and questionnaires are completed.

Travel expenses will be paid to attend the study follow up visits.
