Do you have a dragon in your garden? We want to know!

We estimate that around 14% of homes have a garden with a pond. Garden ponds can be a valuable resource for urban dragonfly populations, but because these are all on private land it is difficult for scientists to study them.

We are recruiting volunteers who have a garden pond and are keen to take on the role of “citizen scientists” to describe their ponds and report the dragonflies and damselflies that live in them throughout the summer of 2015.

Participants will be asked to take basic measurements of their garden pond (e.g. temperature, pH, nitrate and phosphate), identify and record the dragonflies and damselflies they find in the pond once per week for eight weeks. We will provide the participants with a simple kit containing all the necessary equipment.
