Relaunch of Reuse website
A new website for the University’s Reuse service – which finds a new home for unwanted furniture, equipment and stationery – has been launched.
"In response to feedback, we have made the new website much easier to use, whilst also including additional features," says sustainable development assistant Mike Howroyd. "The new site reduces administration by maintaining accurate records, whilst also calculating carbon and financial savings, which are automatically updated on the home page.
"People told us the email notifications which were sent out with the old system could be a bit of a nuisance. The new system allows staff to advertise and search for items on a live database and reserve items without any additional intervention."
The new site has also been designed to be a great template for future developments and it is hoped that the introduction of an RSS feed to the site, as well as a 'wanted' section in the near future will cover all of the aspects of the old system too.
Supported by Estates and Campus Support Services, the website was built following the tremendous success of the furniture Reuse project which has received a 'highly commended' award at the 2010 Green Gown Awards and saved the University over £360k and over 80 tons of carbon since it was launched in July 2009.
